Sharp increase in worldwide pulp stocks in July

Create Bookmark – Producers’ worldwide pulp stocks increased sharply in July. According to the Pulp and Paper Products Council (PPPC), days of stock rose by 5 against June to a total of 39. Here, the market for bleached hardwood pulp was particularly weak with growth of 7 days to 48. As such, manufactures’ stocks are as high as they last were at the beginning of 2009. Bleached softwood pulp increased by 4 to 32 days.
PPPC says worldwide deliveries fell by 11.1% to 3.25 million t (June 11: 3.65 million t), 2.49% lower than last year (July 10: 3.32 million t). Global reduction in demand is also reflected in the figures for the individual regions. Reductions against the previous month were registered everywhere in July except in Latin America and Oceania.
Pulp consumption in Europe was also slightly regressive in July. Utipulp statistics for the month show that at 1.01 million t, European paper manufacturers converted almost 9,000 t less pulp than in June (June 11: 1.01 million t). 1.03 million t was consumed in the corresponding month of last year.
Converters’ stocks in Europe rose by 2.7% to 703,135 t (June 11: 684,479 t).
