All quiet on the German recovered paper market in August

Market players reported a slight drop in supply of sorted graphic paper for deinking amid lower collection volumes of mixed paper and sorting facilities running at reduced capacity.

Compared with the previous month, recovered paper prices remained virtually unchanged on the German market in August. In the case of mixed paper and board and sorted graphic paper for deinking, smaller price hikes of up to €5/t occurred in some instances at the start of the month due to a slight drop in supply. Supermarket paper and board remained in good supply despite traditionally low summer collection volumes and there has been no real need for market players to discuss prices.

On the whole, supply and demand on the German domestic market was in balance in the first two weeks of August. Manufacturers of recycled packaging paper grades in particular reported good operating rates and their demand for recovered paper was consequently high.

Several EUWID respondents described demand from customers in the Far East as potentially good. The amount of paper that was actually sold to export markets in Asia remained nevertheless limited due to good activity on the domestic market, it is learnt.
