Billerud Korsnäs sells PM 2 of its Gävle mill to Swed Paper

The PM2 for kraft and sack paper at Billerud Korsnäs' Gävle mill, which has been up for sale since December, will be sold to a group of private investors.

In compliance with one of the conditions set by the EU Commission Billerud Korsnäs will sell PM2 at is Gävle mill. The buyer is Swed Paper, the recently founded company established for the purpose of acquiring the machine. Gävle's PM2 is producing kraft and sack paper, its operations employ about 60 people, who will be offered employment with Swed Paper. The machine's output accounted for about 2% of Billerud Korsnäs' total combined sales volume, which last year amounted to 1.59 million t.

The two companies also signed long-term commercial agreements for the supply of input items such as pulp, steam and water from Billerud Korsnäs to Swed Paper. Under the terms of the agreement, Billerud Korsnäs will supply a maximum annual pulp volume of 66,000 t to Swed Paper, which will be reported in its Packaging Paper division. Other operations at the Gävle production unit will not be affected by the sale.

Swed Paper is a recently established company, managed by four private investors, Mikael Colebring, Peter Ekman, Lars-Åke Brännström and Lars-Eric Boreström. They have extensive experience in entrepreneurship, particularly in the paper industry, Billerud Korsnäs explained in its press release. Swed Paper signed an agreement with Ekman & Co who will distribute the machine's products.
