Kraftliner output from the mill is also exported to Europe

International Paper (IP) experienced "significant structural damage" to the largest pulp digester as well as the power house at its Pensacola pulp and paper mill in Cantonment, Florida, USA.  The company said that the mill is currently not operating.  IP is assessing the extent of the damage to the mill and is evaluating supply options, working closely with its customers.

No one at the mill was injured, the company said.  Response teams are working with local, state and federal agencies to provide information for those impacted.  The incident released a mixture of wood fiber, water and pulping liquor into the surrounding community.

The mill's output includes more than 500,000 tpy of kraftliner and other containerboard, which is sold to home and overseas markets. Markets insiders suspect that kraftliner production at the mill might be interrupted for several months.
