Burgo is currently discussing the future of the PM 2 of its Duino mill with employee representatives. The conversion of the machine to packaging paper is one of the options the company is considering.

The LWC paper machine (PM 2) at Burgo's Duino site in Italy might be converted to produce packaging paper in the future. The company confirmed that this was one of several options that were being discussed with employee representatives at the moment. The possible options would now be examined, said Burgo, adding that it was too early to talk about details or company strategies.

The Duino site has a capacity of 300,000 tpy of LWC and MWC paper. The mill houses two machines, PM 2 and PM 3.

Burgo recently announced that it plans to close down the PM 2 at the end of the year. The unions then announced a strike to protest against this measure. Following this announcement, Burgo had stopped production of the whole site last Monday and had placed all employees on mandatory vacation, a spokesman of the Slc Cgil union told EUWID. Production was resumed on Thursday, 26 November, according to both the union and Burgo.
