Downward adjustments on Italian coreboard market

The higher level of Italian coreboard prices did not last for very long. Prices dropped somewhat in the first quarter of the year.

Italian coreboard manufacturers have failed in their attempt to keep prices at the level reached after mark-ups in September or October last year. EUWID sources reported that coreboard prices had been adjusted downwards in the first quarter.

The discount was often granted in January, with other suppliers following suit some time in the course of the first quarter. Only in isolated cases manufacturers amended prices in December before the Christmas break.

Several market players remarked that the market conditions did not allow them to hold on to prices from the final quarter of 2013. Manufacturers found that they had made a good start to January, but order intake dropped off again in February and March. Stable recovered paper and core prices did not help their cause.
