New capacities for deinked pulp will soon reach the market. The Voreppe mill in France with a capacity of 140,000 tpy is almost ready to start-up.
The commercial start-up of the deinked pulp mill of Ecocis, formerly known as Delion France, in Voreppe is imminent. A company spokesman told EUWID that production is to be launched in the first week of March. The start-up date had been postponed several times since Delion France's takeover of the mill in March 2014.
The Voreppe site has an annual capacity of 140,000 tpy of deinking pulp. The spokesman said that production would be running up slowly in order not to destabilise the market and to have the time to build up a customer base. The company did not comment on the expected initial output. However, in former reports it had put the expected production in the first months at 100,000 tpy.
According to Ecocis, the Veolia subsidiary EPR is entrusted with recovered paper supply. It will not only deliver the raw material from its own plants, but also procure it from third parties. European suppliers told EUWID they had already received orders for supplying the Voreppe site. Ecocis confirmed that acquisitions were being made not only in France, but also in neighbouring countries such as Switzerland, Italy or Spain.
For a capacity of 140,000 t of deinked pulp, the company said it would have to acquire around 200,000 tpy of recovered paper. The mill will consume the coloured letters (2.06) recovered paper grade as well as specialty grades such as glassine paper.
