Downturn in recycled corrugated case material prices comes to a halt in Italy

Manufactures are opting for price hikes for deliveries in June or July. Hamburger Containerboard announces €50/t increase to all new brown recycled containerboard orders as of June.

Prices for recycled corrugated case material appear to have bottomed out on the Italian market. Players on both sides of the market report largely stable prices in May. Price cuts to the tune of €5-10/t were solely observed for higher-priced offers from outside Italy, Germany in particular.

Market players explain that activity had picked up along the entire value chain in Italy in May. Paper manufacturers mention good demand with machines working at decent capacity utilisation.

Attempts by a few manufacturers in Italy to charge a little more for deliveries in May had been unsuccessful, market players agree. However, some suppliers do not want to describe this endeavour as having failed. They had managed to halt the downturn in prices for now and prepared the ground for a potential price increase in June or July, EUWID sources say.

At the start of week 21 Hamburger Containerboard has announced its price plans for brown recycled containerboard grades. The company is asking for a €50/t price increase for all new orders as of June.
