Several producers plan to increase label paper prices in Germany

Very little movement has been seen in label paper prices over the first quarter in Germany. In response to rising costs for raw materials and energy, a few manufacturers want to venture a push and demand higher prices as of 1 May.

German label paper prices have seen little change in the first three months of 2012. Most prices for wet-strength alkali-resistant as well as non wet-strength label paper have been continued on the basis of fourth-quarter contracts.

In the second quarter of the year, there have been no changes to label prices for the time being. Individual label paper manufacturers, however, intend to make a push for higher prices to compensate for the increase in costs for raw materials, energy and transport. Their plan to implement a 4-6% price hike by 1 May.

Most label paper manufacturers are largely satisfied with capacity utilisation rates. After slightly weaker business in the first two months of 2012, demand in Germany has picked up again as of the middle of March, it is learnt.
