German coreboard prices slightly down in the first quarter

Industry representatives are largely satisfied with order volumes in the first quarter of the year; expect positive demand development for the second quarter.

The first quarter of 2016 has brought slight mark-downs in the quotes for coreboard on the market in Germany. However, many market players believed that there was no general downward trend in coreboard prices as many contracts were left untouched, with prices tending to move sideways.

Coreboard producers supplying the German market reported a good start to the year. There was a small dip in incoming orders in February but this had levelled out again by mid-March. Cumulative volumes so far in 2016 are higher than in the same period last year, according to EUWID respondents.

Expectations for the second quarter are positive right now, although the mood among coreboard producers is subdued owing to the general uncertainty and difficulties in forecasting. A key reason for the optimistic expectations of the industry is the fact that order volumes from the film industry have returned to good levels again, while orders from the graphic paper industry were stabilising even though at lower levels compared to last year, EUWID was told.
