The current situation on the German market for woodfree coated paper is overshadowed by the discussion of the new business model of a leading fine paper producer as well as the potential consequences this will have for the market. According to EUWID respondents, the manufacturer will in future directly supply printing companies with sheets of woodfree coated paper.
Wholesalers fear losing out on significant volumes as a result of increasing direct sales. If other paper producers were to follow this example, the trend could ultimately threaten the survival of the wholesale sector. Although paper merchants do not seem surprised by the move, they were unprepared for it and fear to be left out in future.
