After a fire at Holmen Paper's Hallsta mill that forced the company to halt production, one of the site's two machines is back online. PM 12 has resumed production while PM 11 is expected to do so in mid-January.
Holmen Paper has announced that is has resumed production at the PM 12 of its Hallsta mill in Sweden. The company had stopped production at the mill on 20 November following a fire that broke out in the pulp facility. The site's second paper machine, PM 11, is still offline and the pulp lines have not yet been fully restarted. Holmen said it expected the PM 11 to be put back into operation in mid-January.
The PM 12 produces book paper and magazine paper with a capacity of 230,000 tpy, according to Holmen. Combined, the site's two paper machines have an annual capacity of 550,000 tpy of MF magazine and SC paper as well as book printing paper. The mill also has three thermomechanical pulp lines which can produce a total of 550,000 tpy.
"Damage to the cabling and engines is more extensive in the section that provides PM 11 with paper pulp", Holmen Paper's CEO Nils Ringborg explained.
