Huhtamaki acquires corrugated packaging producer BCP

Finnish packaging group Huhtamaki is strengthening its presence in the UK. The company has taken over BCP which is specialised in packaging for the foodservice, confectionery and cosmetics markets.

Finnish packaging company Huhtamaki has taken over British manufacturer of corrugated packaging BCP Fluted Packaging. According to the Finnish company, the purchase price for all the shares was approximately €20m. Huhtamaki said that the acquired company would be renamed Huhtamaki BCP Ltd. and become part of its Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania business segment. BCP explained there would be no change in its operations and the existing management team lead by Alan McAulay would continue to run the business.

With the takeover, Huhtamaki expects to benefit from synergy effects. "BCP's corrugated food-to-go products complement our existing range of foodservice products perfectly," said Eric Le Lay, Executive Vice President of the Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania division. BCP believes that as part of Huhtamaki there will be new sales opportunities for the company and customers will be better served.

BCP specialises in the production of corrugated packaging for the foodservice, confectionery and cosmetics markets. The company which is located in Blackburn, Lancashire has 120 employees. In the financial year 2012-2013 it generated sales of around €18m.

Huhtamaki is a global manufacturer of consumer and specialty packaging. The company, based in Espoo, Finland, operates 60 manufacturing units and several sales offices in 31 countries and employs a total of 14,200 people. Its net sales in 2012 amounted to €2.3bn.
