GD board manufacturers have announced a €60/t price hike in order to reverse the negative price trend and compensate for higher production costs.

Many sectors of the Italian paper and board market have experienced sustained downward pressure on prices in October. Price cuts typically in the region of €10/t were observed again for coated and uncoated woodfree paper in Italy, with market players anticipating a mounting price war among suppliers in the closing weeks of this year.

Recycled corrugated case material producers and recycled board manufacturers are also feeling the pinch on their prices and are pushing to pay less for recovered paper, sources have told EUWID. Ordinary recovered paper grades became a few euros cheaper in October, with experts expecting to see another round of markdowns for deliveries in November.

The waters are muddied when it comes to the Italian publication paper market. While magazine paper suppliers were fighting tooth and nail to withstand customers' calls for lower prices, newsprint manufacturers are preparing to charge more for deliveries from 1 January 2017 onwards.

A price hike is also up for discussion on the recycled board market in Italy. Looking for means to reverse the negative price trend and compensate for higher production costs, several GD board manufacturers have announced a 60 €/t price hike for all deliveries from the end of November or start of December.
