French paper producers' association COPACEL sees mixed performance in 2016

After having plunged by 1,4 % in 2015 paper production in France last year stagnated at about 8 million t, COPACEL reported at its press conference this week. Sales decreased by 2% due to lower selling prices for a number of paper grades. Looking at the two main sectors, packaging grades recorded a 1,5% growth rate, while production of graphic grades declined by 3,8%.

Energy and primary fibre costs had a favourable impact on the industry's margins, while recovered paper costs climbed. COPACEL's outlook for this year is cautiously optimistic.
