Last summer Slovakia's government had revealed that Mondi Group was mulling over a multimillion investment at the Ružomberok mill. Now, the company has confirmed the plans for a new PM in Slovakia.

Mondi Group is planning major investments in packaging paper capacities in Central Europe. At the yesterday's Capital Markets Day in London, Mondi announced it was evaluating the installation of a 300,000 tpy containerboard machine at the Ružomberok pulp and paper mill in Slovakia. "The project under consideration will not impact the mill's existing paper machines", the group explained.

Furthermore, Mondi is considering an expansion project in the kraft paper segment. It will see the installation of a new 90,000 tpy machine glazed machine at one of Mondi's production sites in Central Europe "offering integrated pulp capacity," according to the company. The new machine is said to replace capacity reductions resulting from the closure of the Lohja mill in Finland and conversion to other grades in Štětí, Czech Republic.

Mondi Group underlined that the above projects had not yet been approved and that final decisions were expected in 2016.
