Negotiations on prices for coldset newsprint on the German market are still not finalised. However, some smaller orders have already seen a price hike, say market participants.
The German newsprint market appears to lack any decisive movement in general at the end of February. In negotiations over the terms and conditions for deliveries of coldset grades in 2016, market players often appear to be treading water. Although some suppliers demonstrate greater flexibility with respect to prices hikes than in January, a wide chasm separates their positions from the publishers' targets, EUWID respondents report.
Even though manufacturers report that contracts have been signed for small and medium-sized orders with hikes, the market is still waiting - as in the previous year - the bold stroke, for an unmistakable signal. Industry insiders say that the market could see such a signal soon: some contracts with industrial buyers are reportedly ready to be signed.
