Prices for ordinary recovered paper grades in Poland remained high in May and did not fall after the latest price hike in April. Market players report good demand and rather low stocks at paper mills.

After ordinary recovered paper grades in Poland became more expensive in April, a phase of widespread stability has reigned. Unlike in other European countries, virtually no noticeable price cuts were implemented on the domestic market as May drew to a close. Buyers are waiting for relief on the cost front, but also said that pressure had abated thanks to a significant rise in packaging paper prices in 2017.

At the end of May, merchants in Poland reported that demand for mass grades had been exceptionally good over the past couple of months. After all, many European paper producers had scaled back the amounts that they bought in recent weeks to counteract higher recovered paper prices. As a result, the amounts on stock at paper mills were typically at a rather low level.
