Family-owned Panther Packaging of Germany is closing down containerboard production at its Meldorf plant. Rising costs left no other options.

Papierfabrik Meldorf, part of the Panther Group, is to close down its containerboard operations in Meldorf in northern Germany as of June 30 of this year. This was confirmed towards EUWID by Carin Hilmer-Brenzinger, managing director of the Panther Group.

Panther said that it had to close down paper production due to the facility's lack of profitability caused by a massive rise in costs for energy and raw materials. The plant offers a capacity of 30,000 tpy of corrugated case material. About 41 employees are to be affected by the closure.

Papierfabrik Meldorf runs two plants, one of which is located in Meldorf. Together with the Tornesch plant it produces corrugated case material grades. The Tornesch operations are not affected by the planned closure.
