GD board prices declined on the Italian market in July in the wake of sustained weak demand and a trend to shift to GC board in the food industry.
While some suppliers attributed the price decline to summer rebates and said they hoped these prices would not make their way into the official lists come autumn, other market participants reported that the lower prices had already become established everywhere in the market.
Customers from the food industry in Italy are reported to be undertaking a slow but steady switch-over from recycled to virgin-fibre board. The driving force behind this change, according to market participants, is the discussion about mineral oil content in recycled packaging paper and board and the transfer of mineral oils from packaging to food.
