Pro-Gest walks the talk. The packaging group presses ahead with the restart of the Mantua mill and ordered a packaging paper machine with a net capacity of 500,000 tpy.

Italian packaging group Pro-Gest is realising its plan to transform the former newsprint mill in Mantua into a packaging paper mill. The company announced it had signed a contract with Valmet for the delivery of a new paper machine for the Italian site. The machine will have a net capacity of 500,000 tpy of lightweight recycled corrugated case material in grammages of 70-140 g/m², according to Pro-Gest. In former reports, the capacity had been put at more than 420,000 tpy. The PM's width will be 7.6 m and it will be able to run with a maximum speed of 1,700 m/min.

The supply also included a new high capacity winder, machine auxiliaries and Valmet's mill-wide DNA technology, said Pro-Gest.

Players on the Italian market and Italian media are discussing Pro-Gest's plans to restart the Mantua mill. The region is eagerly awaiting the restart as this will create new jobs. The company says that around 100 workers might be employed.
