Contrary to an earlier decision to discontinue production of groundwood pulp, Rottneros has decided to keep the machine at the Rottneros mill running.

Swedish pulp producer Rottneros has decided to continue to manufacture groundwood market pulp at the Rottneros mill. The company reported at the beginning of January that attempts to improve the production process have been successful, culminating in the development of a groundwood pulp said to be of interest to board manufacturers in particular.

Rottneros says it plans to produce 40,000-50,000 t of groundwood pulp in 2013.

Only relatively recently in May 2012, Rottneros had made the decision to discontinue production of groundwood pulp due to the slump in demand from the printing and writing paper sector. A total of 50 employees were to be dismissed as a result of the production stop. 20 of them are now to be invited to continue to work for the company.

The Rottneros mill has a production capacity of 170,000 tpy of CTMP and groundwood.
