SCA permitted to increase output at Östrand pulp mill

22 Feb 2011 −

The Swedish Environmental Court Miljödomstoler has given SCA the go-ahead to increase production output at its Östrand pulp mill. The company reports that the court approved an application from SCA to increase pulp output to annually 660,000 t. In the past, SCA’s Östrand mill was licensed to produce 420,000 tpy of kraft pulp and 90,000 tpy of CTMP annually. The new revised environmental conditions permit an increase in output to a maximum of annually 550,000 t of kraft pulp and 110,000 t of CTMP. Increasing the ceiling on pulp production appears to be part of a long-term plan to boost capacity of the Östrand mill.
