Capacity expansion at Mörrum pulp mill continues. Södra's BOD decides to invest another SEK1bn.

Swedish pulp manufacturer Södra Cell has announced a follow-up investment at the Mörrum softwood (NBSK) and dissolving pulp mill. The SEK1bn (€105m) investment includes the installation of a new evaporator, and modernisation of the brown stock washing system in the dissolving pulp line

"A new evaporator will make it possible to increase the production rate, as well as deliveries of energy products, such as electricity, district heating and biofuels. The new investment will increase production capacity by 45,000 tonnes, bringing the total production of paper and dissolving pulp to 470,000 tonnes," Södra explained.

Modernisation work is slated to start this spring and is scheduled for completion by November 2017.

The capacity increase project represents the second step of the company's long-term project for Mörrum. The first phase had been completed in December 2015.
