Production of recycled containerboard at Parenco's Renkum mill is in the starting blocks. About 90,000 t of paper are to be produced this year.

Dutch paper manufacturer Parenco is poised to begin operations on the rebuilt PM 2 at its Renkum mill. A company spokeswoman told EUWID yesterday, on 2 August, that the machine would start up that same day or the following day.

PM 2 will produce testliner 3 and corrugating medium with grammages ranging from 70 to 160 g/m², according to the company. The full capacity of 385,000 tpy should be reached in 2020, Parenco said. In the current year the company expects to produce a total of 90,000 tpy of corrugated case material.

This step represents Parenco's first foray into the packaging paper market. Some time ago, the company had announced its plans to switch over PM 2, which had previously produced newsprint with a capacity of 225,000 tpy and was mothballed in 2009, to the production of packaging paper. Approximately one year ago the company made the final decision to go ahead with the project. In Renkum the company also operates PM 1, which has capacity to produce 260,000 tpy of SC paper.
