Suzano to build biomass boiler at Mucuri plant
Suzano plans to use more renewable energy in pulp production in the future. The company is to build a biomass-fired boiler at is Mucuri pulp plant in the state of Bahia.
CBC Indústrias Pesadas (CBC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Japanese Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Brazil has been awarded the contract. Delivery is planned for early 2014 and will not only include the boiler but also the peripheral equipment.
The boiler is designed for biomass firing and has an evaporation capacity of 120 t of steam per hour. It adopts CBC’s bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) technology and combusts woody biomass. The companies did not disclose any financial details of the deal.
Suzano’s Mucuri unit has an annual production capacity of 1 million t of bleached eucalyptus pulp.
