Titanium dioxide prices tending lower in Q1

Many prices are tending lower on the titanium dioxide market in Western Europe. TiO2 suppliers report good orders from the varnish and paint producers and stable demand from the decor paper industry.

Stable titanium dioxide prices that have prevailed over the past few quarters remained in place in many contracts at the start of 2014. However, buyers did not always accept the roll-over of TiO2 prices into the new quarter. Minor price cuts of up to 2% have also been reported for first quarter deliveries, mostly on the upper side of the price bracket.

Demand for titanium dioxide has picked up increasingly after a slow start in January. Due to a mild winter, paint and varnish producers experienced good demand for building coatings and paints from the building and construction industry and have gradually ordered more TiO2 over the past few weeks. Demand from the decor paper industry is currently at least stable.

Consequently, titanium dioxide producers noted that they were able to run down their inventories and operate their machines at better capacity utilisation again. However, buyers noted that sourcing titanium dioxide was not problematic at all.
