UK corrugated board and packaging producer Cepac has launched its "Rotherham 2" investment project.
Initially scheduled for 2024, the company announced plans to invest a total of £53m to expand its facility in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. At the site the company will build new production space and install modern equipment.
In the first phase of the project, around half of the investment sum will go towards modifying the existing plant layout and capability of the existing site, said Steve Moss, Group Managing Director of Cepac. The additional production space is scheduled to become operational in 2026 and 2027.
The phased upgrade of the existing corrugator (BHS) is to be completed first, after which the line will be able to produce up to 240 million m² of corrugated board annually. Cepac then plans to install several new high-speed converting lines, including printing, die-cutting and gluing machines. The project also foresees an expansion of despatch and warehousing capacity as well as investments in renewable energy generation.
"We are excited to get this multi-phase project underway," concludes Steve Moss. "Off the back of several years of growth within the company and picking up significant accolades at industry award events, this next phase of investment will help maintain our growth trajectory and support our position as one of the country’s most innovative producers of next generation print and packaging for customers across the UK."
