The expansion in Poland is part of a £100m investment project which DS Smith announced at the end of 2020 for Poland and Italy.

UK paper and packaging group DS Smith has been building a new corrugated packaging plant in Bełchatów, a town located south of Łódź in central Poland, since last year. Commissioning of the new plant, including a new corrugator geared for an annual production of 180,000 m², was originally scheduled for the end of March and was subsequently postponed to the end of June 2022, the company explained.

Bełchatów is the sixth corrugated packaging plant of the company’s Polish subsidiary DS Smith Polska. When announcing the project in May last year DS Smith put the investment cost for the Bełchatów plant at PLN250m. The plot of land measuring nearly 13 ha is part of the Łódź SEZ and was acquired by DS Smith in September 2018 for nearly PLN4m.

The Bełchatów plant will create over 200 new jobs. According to the company’s website, the application process for some posts is still open.

The expansion in Poland is part of a £100m investment project which DS Smith announced at the end of 2020 for Poland and Italy. A corrugator and three out of ten packaging production lines at the company’s Italian site in Castelfranco Emilia near Modena have been in operation since March. DS Smith puts annual production capacity of the new corrugated board and packaging plant in Italy at over 200 million m².
