DS Smith to invest in German sites, close Berlin plant

DS Smith plans to invest €120m in the expansion and modernisation of its three German plants in Nördlingen, Arenshausen and Arnstadt.

According to the company, the main focus is on expanding capacity. More than €75m  will be invested in a new corrugator and a fully automated high-bay warehouse in Nördlingen. The Arenshausen and Arnstadt sites will also see upgrades worth €34m and €9m respectively. The money will mainly be spent on modern converting equipment.

At the same time, the Berlin corrugated packaging plant will be closed. According to the group, the site is "no longer economically viable".
