Mondi is one step closer to the planned takeover of several Western European plants of Germany’s Schumacher Packaging. On 27 March, the EU Commission cleared the acquisition, which includes Schumacher's corrugated converting and solid board businesses in Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.
The Commission said it concluded that the notified transaction would not raise competition concerns, given its limited impact on competition in the markets where the companies are active, notably with regard to the production and sale of heavy-duty, conventional and litho-laminated corrugated cases in certain areas in Germany and Austria.
Mondi and Schumacher announced the transaction in October 2024 and expect it to be finalised during the first half of this year. The transaction value was put at €634m in earlier statements.
