German specialty paper manufacturer Felix Schoeller plans to invest €13m over the next two years to enhance efficiency and sustainability at its German production sites. The investment package includes four projects in Osnabrück, Weißenborn, Günzach, and Titisee-Neustadt.
The largest share, €9m, is allocated to the Osnabrück plant, the company's headquarter. Felix Schoeller will upgrade the site's PM 1. This is expected to increase output of the machine by around 20 percent and broaden the offering of the mill. As part of the company's structural reorganisation, products and grades from the German Penig site, which was recently closed, were already transferred to Osnabrück earlier this year. The Osnabrück mill currently has a capacity of 120,000 tpy of decor paper, photo paper and release liner products, amongst others.
Felix Schoeller also plans to invest €4m in sustainability projects. In Weißenborn, a steam accumulator will be installed, reducing CO₂ emissions and improving energy efficiency. The mill has a capacity of 105,000 tpy of imaging papers.
At the Titisee-Neustadt site, the company will install a heat exchanger on PM 18. The paper machine's produces decor and barrier papers with a capacity of 30,000 tpy.
In Günzach, the wastewater treatment plant will be modernised. This mill houses three paper machines with a total capacity of 60,000 tpy. The portfolio includes laminate papers, intensive-coloured papers, among other products, and also offers small batch sizes.
The investment package is designed to significantly boost competitiveness from 2027 onwards, Felix Schoeller says.
