Algerian corrugated packaging producer Général Emballage is planning to build a new recycled containerboard (RCCM) mill in Naâma.
The paper machine will have a capacity of 350,000 tpy, a web width of 7.5 m and a design speed of 1,200 m/min. It is designed to produce testliner and fluting grades and will be the largest machine of its kind in Africa, according to Andritz, which will supply the complete line. The scope of supply includes stock preparation, the paper machine, winder, automation and digitalisation systems, as well as spare and wear parts and service agreements. Start-up is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2028. The order value is in the low three-digit million euro range.
Ramdane Batouche, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Général Emballage, described the project as a milestone investment. He said Andritz had been selected for its technology as well as its ability to address the company’s specific requirements, adding that he expects a long-term partnership between the two companies.
Headquartered in Akbou (Wilayah of Béjaïa), Général Emballage is a vertically integrated producer of corrugated board and packaging, covering the value chain from recovered paper collection through paper production and corrugating to the manufacture and printing of packaging. The company operates three sites in Akbou, Oran and Sétif and employs around 1,300 people.
