Polish packaging producer Grembox has started building its new corrugated board packaging plant in Bytom in southern Poland. The company is investing more than PLN110m (around €26m) in the plant located within the Katowice Special Economic Zone (KSSE).
The new plant is being built on a site measuring around 4.6 ha. Current plans provide for a production and warehouse building with an area of around 11,000 m2, along with office space and staff facilities. Mateusz Bochenek, CEO of Grembox, said that construction was scheduled to be completed in the course of next year so that commissioning could take place by the end of 2027. He added that the new plant is primarily intended to support the company’s e-commerce business operations. Grembox claims to operate Poland’s largest online shop for packaging and decided to increase its production capacities especially to serve this distribution channel.
The plant is to manufacture corrugated board packaging made from purchased corrugated board. Grembox has no plans to install a corrugator of its own. The plant’s annual production capacity is to total between 40 million and 50 million m2 of corrugated board packaging and the site is expected to employ 70 to 80 people. The investment project receives funding under the EU’s FENG programme.
Grembox acquired the site within the KSSE as early as 2024. According to its plans at that time, the project was to be put into practice in two stages. The first stage envisaged building a production plant for corrugated board packaging, while the company planned the expansion of its warehousing capacities and the integration of its manufacturing and e-commerce activities at a single facility in a second stage. Bytom was thus set to become one of the largest packaging centres in Poland serving the e-commerce sector.
Grembox is a Polish family-run company headquartered in Ruda Śląska. To date the company has sold its packaging output primarily to customers within Poland including companies from the e-commerce sector and from the food, cosmetics, manufacturing, construction and household chemicals industries.
