Grigeo Group launches €106m expansion to double tissue paper capacity

Baltic paper and wood industry group Grigeo is investing more than €106m in a major expansion of its tissue paper operations, marking the largest growth project in the company’s history. The programme will double Grigeo’s tissue paper production capacity to 140,000 tpy.

The company announced that it will invest €97m in the modernisation and expansion of the Grigeo Tissue’s site in Grigiškės, Lithuania. The investment project comprises the installation of a new tissue machine (PM 7) from Toscotec with a capacity to produce 70,000 tpy, and two new automatic base paper conversion lines, a pulp warehouse and a new building with a total floor area of more than 20,000 m². The PM 7 is one of the fastest serial machines on the market, with a paper width of 5,600 mm and a design speed of 2,100 m/min, writes Grigeo.

A further €9m will go to upgrading facilities at the Grigeo Tissue mill in Poland.

The investment is being financed through a mix of loans and internal funding, the company said. Lithuanian SEB Bank is providing €55.2m, while Poland’s Santander Bank is contributing €6.5m. Grigeo will cover the remaining €44.3m from its own resources.

Grigeo will also invest in additional converting capacity. Two new lines from Valmet (one for B2C and one for B2B applications) will be installed in Grigiškės in 2026, with another B2B line planned for 2027. The Polish facility will receive a new converting line and infrastructure upgrades.

The expansion will create up to 35 new jobs in Lithuania and Poland in the short term, with an additional 80 staff to be hired by 2028–2029.

Grigeo Group, which produces fibreboard, board and tissue, comprises companies in Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Ukraine. In 2024, the group reported €213m in sales, with Ebitda of €34.8m and net profit of €20.9m.
