Recycled corrugated case material manufacturer Hamburger Containerboard is asking for a substantial price hike for deliveries from the start of October due to high energy costs.

Hamburger Containerboard, member of Austria's Prinzhorn group, will increase its prices for corrugated case materials by €125/t (£100/t) from 1 October. According to the company, this step was another necessary consequence of the dramatically rising energy costs which have inreased almost eightfold in the last 12 months, and was needed to ensure production continues. "The current price reductions in the PFR [paper for recycling] sector were far from being able to compensate this huge cost disadvantage," the company explained.

In addition, Hamburger Containerboard announced that it would reduce its RCCM production output by a total of 70,000 t in September and October. During this period, power plant overhauls in Hungary and Austria, which have been planned for some time, would be carried out, it is said.

In Austria, Hamburger Containerboard Pitten runs two paper machines with total production capacity of 450,000 tpy of recycled fluting, testliner and plasterboard liner. The mill in Dunaujvaros, Hungary, houses two containerboard machines with a total production capacity of 700,000 tpy of recycled fluting and testliner grades.
