Canada's Kruger Inc. will invest CAD 32.4m to produce new grades of ultra-clean pulp at its Kamloops mill in British Columbia. With this investment, Kruger is diversifying its product portfolio, expanding into the growing markets of North America and Asia, and improving its environmental footprint.
The new pulp washing system at Kruger Kamloops will increase the efficiency of the mill and significantly reduce inorganic material and talc in the finished product. The process will also result in a substantial reduction in the use of bleaching chemicals, writes Kruger Inc.
This technology will be combined with advanced controls and AI-based capabilities to ensure that the pulp consistently meets the most stringent requirements for specialty products requiring ultra-clean pulp, according to Kruger Inc.
Scheduled for completion in 2026, the project will enable Kruger Kamloops to increase production of ultra-clean pulp from 43,000 tpy in year one to more than 115,000 tpy in year three and beyond.
The governments of Canada and British Columbia are each contributing CAD5m to the project through the Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) programme (Canada) and the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund.
Headquartered in Montréal, Kruger Inc. operates 19 manufacturing facilities and 47 renewable energy power plants and employs 6,000 people in Canada and the United States. The company is a major supplier of tissue products, 100 per cent recycled containerboard, corrugated packaging, pulp and paper products, renewable energy and cellulosic biomaterials.
