Mayr-Melnhof group (MM) has acquired land and buildings of an idle board mill in Gernsbach, Germany. The purchase of a neighbouring property will offer a long-term perspective and create space for the further development of MM’s own board mill in Gernsbach, according to Vienna-based board and packaging group.
MM said it had bought only land and buildings and would evaluate several concepts for their future use. The property belonged to a former cartonboard mill which had ceased operations in the meantime owing to insolvency, the group explained. At present, cartonboard production reportedly does not appear in the list of possible use options for MM’s new site.
With the exception of Baden Board, there is no other board mill in the Gernsbach region that has recently gone into administration. Upon request, Mayr-Melnhof did not comment on the identity of the seller.
