Metsä Board: Production at Tako paperboard mill in Finland discontinued

Metsä Board has discontinued production at its Tako cartonboard mill in Finland with the shutdown of board machine BM 1 on 17 June.

In January 2025, Metsä Board announced that it would close the board mill, citing continued weak profitability and the desire to improve competitiveness as the reasons for the decision.

At the Tako site, Metsä Board manufactured GC1 cartonboard on two machines (BM 1 and BM 3) with a total production capacity of around 210,000 tpy, which according to earlier information reflects around 13 per cent of the company's total production capacity for folding boxboard.

The dismantling of the machines and production facilities is planned for 2026.

Production has been transferred from Tako to the Kyro board mill.
