Finnish pulp and wod products manufacturer Metsä Fibre, a member of the Metsä Group, has completed the statutory change negotiations with employee representatives on the possible temporary layoffs at the company's facilities in Rauma and Joutseno.
The agreement will give Metsä Fibre the possibililty to layoff the staff of the Joutseno and Rauma pulp mills and the Rauma sawmill for up to 90 days in the second half of the year. The change negotiations involved a total of approximately 465 people.
"After the end of the change negotiations, the company has made a decision according to which, the Joutseno and Rauma pulp mills and Rauma sawmill may, if necessary, implement temporary layoffs for the entire personnel as of July 2025 and by the end of December 2025," Metsä Fibre announced.
According to Metsä Fibre, the change negotiations are used to prepare for the temporary need to restrict production due to the order backlog and the weakened market situation. The timing and duration of layoff periods, which are planned on a mill-specific basis, have not been communicated.
