Metsä Fibre will initiate change negotiations on temporary layoffs at its Joutseno softwood pulp mill as it plans to suspend production at the site from the end of March, citing continued uncertainty in pulp market conditions.
The change negotiations regard potential temporary layoffs of up to 90 days and cover the entire mill personnel, Metsä Fibre says.
Metsä Fibre's Joutseno mill has a workforce of 170 and produces up to 690,000 tpy of northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp.
Last week the company announced that it will take commercial downtime starting 31 March.
Last year, pulp production at the Joutseno mill had been standing idle for six months.
