Mondi has commissioned its rebuilt recycled corrugated case material machine at the Duino site in Italy. Less than a year after the groundbreaking ceremony, the project has thus been completed on schedule, the company reports.
Once fully ramped up, the PM will produce 420,000 tpy of recycled corrugated case material. According to Mondi, the paper is ideal for lightweight corrugated solutions and for applications such as e-commerce and consumer goods packaging. The company says it is focused on maintaining consistent production throughout the ramp-up phase.
"With Mondi Duino now part of our integrated value chain, we are excited to serve our customers with sustainable packaging solutions from our expanded network of six containerboard mills worldwide," said Markus Gärtner, CEO of Mondi Corrugated Packaging.
Mondi took over the Duino mill in northern Italy, not far from Trieste, from Burgo in January 2023 with the aim of converting the site's LWC paper machine to the production of recycled corrugated case material. Mondi emphasises that the project will increase its integration and enhance security of supply for customers.
