Mondi to invest €280m in containerboard and corrugated production capacities

|

The investment is geared towards meeting rising packaging demand within the FMCG, e-commerce and industrial market sectors.

Paper and packaging manufacturer Mondi announced an extensive investment programme to expand and upgrade its corrugated case material, corrugated board and packaging facilities across Europe.

A total of €280m is to be invested in expanding capacity and increasing efficiency,  in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Turkey, of which €95m is earmarked for the Polish site in Świecie alone.

These investments are reportedly an important part of Mondi's €1bn capacity expansionary capital investment projects planned for this year in order to accelerate growth in paper-based packaging, especially in the e-commerce business. "European demand for corrugated packaging is expected to grow by 2 - 4 per cent per year in the medium term," says Mondi.

What is more, the expansion and upgrade of the Kuopio semi-chemicalfluting (SC fluting) in Finland remains on track. The €125m Capex project, which was announced last year, includes an upgrade of the wood yard, fibre line, evaporation plant and paper machine, with start-up planned for the fourth quarter of 2023.
