Mondi’s project to upgrade and transform its Dynäs kraft paper mill in Sweden is progressing well.
A key milestone was reached in May 2025, when the new fibre line was successfully started up during the mill’s annual maintenance shutdown, according to a company release from December 2025. During the maintenance shutdown, the new continuous digester was also commissioned.
The new fibre line will result in a small increase in production capacity, driven by higher fibre yields achieved with the new digester. No changes are planned at the paper machine, Mondi said.
The investment project also includes a new bark boiler, bark dryer and tall oil plant. According to Mondi, the new bark boiler will significantly reduce the mill’s use of fossil fuels, while the digester will improve both energy efficiency and water management.
When announcing the project in 2023, Mondi said the investment was expected to be completed in 2026.
Mondi Dynäs is an integrated mill comprising a pulp plant and two paper machines. It produces brown kraft sack paper and speciality kraft paper in basis weights ranging from 50 to 120 gsm. The papers are used in applications such as flour and pet food packaging, cement and other construction materials, chemicals, shopping bags, packaging and laminated products. The mill also produces innovative solutions such as Ad/Vantage StretchWrap, a paper-based alternative to plastic film for pallet wrapping.
