Portuguese tissue and fine paper producer the Navigator Company has started up its new moulded packaging fibre plant on the premises of its Cacia pulp mill complex in Aveiro. The company reports that it installed three new packaging lines with a combined capacity of 100 million packs per year.
The plant is designed to allow capacity increases in the coming years. According to Navigator, it is already the largest plant for this type of product in Europe.
The moulded fibre packaging is produced from eucalyptus pulp and production will be integrated into the Aveiro industrial site. The new plant’s product portfolio includes tableware such as plates, bowls and cups, take-away packaging as well as food packaging such as laminated pouches for meat and boxes for fruit and vegetables.
The Navigator Company sees great potential in this end-product segment and, with this investment, responded to the trend towards sustainable paper packaging, which is increasingly replacing single-use plastic packaging.
