Navigator takes over Gomà-Camps' consumer tissue business

The acquisition of GC Consumer will boost Navigator's tissue production and converting capacity and strengthen the company's position as one of the leading suppliers on the Iberian peninsula.

Portuguese pulp and paper manufacturer The Navigator Company (Navigator) and Spain's tissue paper and products company Gomà-Camps have completed the purchase and sale of Gomà-Camps' consumer tissue business. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

Gomà-Camps' consumer tissue business (GC Consumer) consists of the Spanish company Gomà-Camps Consumer Slu and Gomà-Camps France Sas. According to Gomà-Camps, Navigator acquired 100 per cent of share in the two companies.

GC Consumer runs one tissue mill in Ejea de los Caballeros north of Saragossa an produces 35,000 tpy of tissue. The company's converting capacity amounts to 60,000 tpy and GC Consumer had sales of €116m in 2022, according to Navigator.

The acquisition was part of Navigator's plan for diversification and development and would strengthen the group’s position as the second largest Iberian producer of tissue, Navigator announced. The integration of GC Consumer's operations into Navigator is said to increase the group's tissue production capacity to 165,000 t and boost the converting capacity to 180,000 t. The acquistion should contribute to a new growth cycle in the tissue business segment and would consolidate the group's net sales in the tissue segment in excess of €300m, Navigator explained.

Following the divestment of the consumer tissue business, Gomà-Camps said it would continue to strengthen its position in the professional (away-from-home) tissue segment in the Iberian Peninsula and in the international reel sales market. A the La Riba tissue facility in Tarragona province the company runs two tissue machines with an installed production capacity of 60,000 tpy of primary and recycled fibre-based tissue. Gomà-Camps' remaining converting capacity is estimated at 40,000 tpy.
