Northwood buys K-C tissue mill and converting sites

UK tissue manufacturer Northwood has acquired the Coleshill mill and converting facility of Kimberly-Clark as well as the Flint converting site from Kimberly-Clark (K-C) Personal Care. The companies have already completed the sale and purchase agreement.

The transaction comprises a tissue mill with a capacity of around 30,000 tpy, a converting plant for rolled and folded tissue products, a national distribution centre and the Flint factory, which is equipped with converting technology for wet wipes, Northwood reports.

K-C operated the Flint site until its closure in 2025. The shutdown was linked in part to regulatory developments, including the UK government’s planned ban on plastic-containing wet wipes, scheduled to take effect in 2026.

Operating as Northwood Tissue (Flint) Ltd, the site will be integrated into Northwood’s Away-from-Home and Consumer divisions. According to Northwood, the location and size of the facilities are expected to complement existing operations and support further growth.

Northwood said the acquisition would strengthen its position in both market segments while expanding its product portfolio and value chain. Following completion of the transaction, the company is aligning operational systems ahead of a phased start-up and plans to launch a recruitment campaign for the sites.

Paul Fecher, founder and chairman of Northwood, described the deal as an important acquisition that would create opportunities to expand into both traditional and new sectors.

The Northwood Group operates across the hygiene paper sector in the UK and Europe and supplies parent reels to hygiene converters. The company markets a range of consumer and Away-from-Home brands, including Rhino Kitchen Towel, Hush, Freedom, Raphael, North Shore and Whisper.
