German producer of corrugated case material and corrugated sheets Progroup has reached an important milestone at its new plant in Italy. The company reported that test production had begun at the newly built sheet feeder plant in Cessalto, close to Venice. "The plant is no longer a construction site – the team has moved in and is producing under real conditions for the first time," the company reported on its social media channels.
Progroup had announced the construction of the new plant in Cessalto in 2022 and laid the foundation stone last year. According to earlier company statements, the site will be able to produce up to 200,000 tpy of corrugated sheets. These will be converted into packaging at the adjacent plant of the company Ondulkart, Progroup's local partner. The plan was to create 60 new jobs at the new site.
Progroup operates another corrugated sheet feeder plant in Italy, loacted in Drizzona, also in the north of the country. It has a capacity of around 95,000 tpy of corrugated sheets and is adjacent to a plant of packaging manufacturer Imbal Carton.
Progroup has grown in recent years. Last summer, the company opened a new corrugated sheet feeder plant in Petersberg, Germany. A similar plant was built in Stryków, Poland, and began operations in early 2023. Both have a capacity of 200,000 tpy of corrugated sheets. A renovation and expansion project was also planned in the area around Progroup's existing plant in Douvrin, France.
