Smurfit Kappa Group (SKG) will make its first step into the Moroccan market. The group announced it would build its first corrugated packaging plant in the country.

Construction of the plant began this week, when the first stone of the foundations was laid. The new facililty is expected to be operational in early 2023.

The new plant will be located in Rabat and cover an area of 25,000 m². According to SKG, it will produce corrugated packaging for sectors including the industrial, agriculture, FMCG, automotive, and pharma sectors and is to serve both local customers and multinationals based in Morocco. Around 300 direct and indirect jobs are planned to be created.

SKG currently runs only a sales office in Morocco, in Casablanca. The company sees big growth potential in the country. "In a market where the demand for corrugated packaging currently exceeds supply, the new plant will play an important and strategic role," the group said.
