Stora Enso will continue its cooperation with Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt despite the latter's recent restructuring measures.

A Stora Enso spokesperson con-firmed to Euwid that the co-operation with Northvolt in the production of components for green vehicle batteries will continue. Northvolt is one of several partners with which Stora Enso co-operates in research and development and the sale of green bat-teries.
Two years ago, Northvolt acquired Stora Enso's closed site for publication paper in Kvarnsveden and planned to convert it for the production of material for battery cath-odes. However, as part of its recently an-nounced strategic measures to adapt to mar-ket conditions, this project at the Kvarnsveden site is being cancelled and Northvolt is selling the site again.
In June of this year, Stora Enso announced a partnership with the Swedish battery devel-oper Altris to drive forward the use of its lig-nin-derived hard carbon lignode in the pro-duction of sodium-ion batteries. In February last year, Stora Enso joined the Polestar 0 project, in which the Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar is pursuing the goal of building a climate-neutral car by 2030.
